1.What's a spout pouch?
A spout pouch is a new type of packaging that combines the advantages of stand-up pouches and spouts. Spout pouches are typically made of multi-layer composite film materials, offering good self-standing and sealing properties, which makes them convenient to carry and store. Products are dispensed through the spout attached to the package, providing easy and quick access.
2. How do you fill a spout pouch?
Spout pouches are usually filled using automated filling equipment. The typical process includes:
(1)Placing the pre-made spout pouches into the filling machine;
(2)Transferring the product into the pouches through pipelines;
(3)Sealing the pouch, forming the final packaging.
It's important to note that there are two main methods for filling spout pouches, differentiated by the filling location:
(1)Top-filling: In this method, the top of the pouch is left unsealed, while the spout is pre-attached. The product is then filled from the top of the pouch.
(2)Spout-filling: Here, the pouch top is pre-sealed, and the product is filled through the attached spout.
The choice of filling method will affect the production process and the pouch structure. Customers should communicate their preferred filling method to the manufacturer upfront, to ensure the appropriate pouch design is provided.
The whole filling process requires attention to sealing, oxygen levels, and other factors to ensure product quality.
3.Are spout pouches recyclable?
Due to the use of multi-layer composite materials, spout pouches have traditionally been difficult to recycle. However, in 2019, we developed spout pouch structures using single-material films (LDPE or PP), making the pouches (with PE or PP spouts) mono-material and easier to sort and recycle, enabling a sustainable circular packaging solution.
Of course, we also need to evaluate the suitability of this structure based on the client's product, required pouch size and volume, to ensure the environmental benefits while still meeting the packaging needs.
